So instead of my weekly recap..I decided to post in here for this week and take you guys through my 4 days..or at least Day 1..if I have time I will write about each day.
I'mt not as disciplined as Mullins, but I remember a few tidbits. I normally could care less what the score is and I am just watching the players movements and overall talent. Here we go:
Game 1
I started on Friday 2:30 PM 12/26 at Mesa Mountain View for the VMBC. 1st up was Gilbert Christian vs St. Mary's. I was sitting with Kenny. We are thinking this would be an amazing game considering a good D1 team w a star PG Shaver vs a good D2 team w a star Satterwhite. Unfortunately, the 3rd play of the game after he already hit a sick crossover pull-up 3, Shaver was on a fast break and got hit a little in air and landed way out of bounds and into the wall area. Near the wall there was a huge metal brick which he landed on. Right near his hip. Marcus Shaver never played the rest of the event. He has a deep contusion near his hip. Very unlucky to see that, then the people running the place removed the brick all together. Not sure why it was there-it may have been holding up 1 of the signs..not sure.
Anyway we move on in the action. Satterwhite dominates the 1st half with 19 points for a 5pt lead at 32-27 for GC. He was hitting some nice pull-ups from all over the court.
2nd half for SM was the 3ball without their playmaker. Isiah Walton, Jon Rivera and Carlos Nosie hit a combined 7 3s to keep them in the game, but it was too much Dontez Thomas. DT had 13 points and 5 steals in the 2nd half. No true ball handler for SM made DT's job easier and he went off. Satterwhite was a decoy and only attempted 2 shots in half. He did add 4 assists plus 1 statue of liberty dunk Mullins called it. It was incredible!!!! I'm older and said it was like Dr.J coming from way out and stretching his 7'1" wingspan out and throwing it down near a player(who kind of moved out of the way).
Satterwhite 23 4 assists 2 steals
D. Thomas 22 5 assists 5 steals--MVP of game.
Jon Rivera 12 pts
Btw 6'8" 2018 KJ Hymes is huge! Like around 17 size shoes long arms. Dad is a massive man-huge huge hands. Could be 7'0"? Be fun to track him.
Game 2
4:00 PM has Chaparral vs Tempe
1st half was all Chap led by Hoffer (12) and Nudo (10). Jones and Gant were solid too in 1st half with 10 and 9 respectively.
2nd half had Chap lead at close to 15 and then the floodgates opened for Tempe. This was fun!! It seemed like Chap stopped playing defense. Or Tempe just had a 2nd gear they couldn't physically hang with.
DeLano Jones hit 5 3s in a row basically plus Bilal Muhammed hit 2, Manny Gant hit 1 and Tempe actually had a 80-77 lead. Chap tried to tie it up but to no avail.
DeLano finished with 27 clutch points.
Gant 25 points.
Nudo 25 but missed shots-didnt look himself.
Hoffer 22 pts
6'0" 2016 G Bilal Muhammed 11
6'2" 2015 G Kalun White 10
Game 3
5:30 PM has Red Mountain vs Pinnacle…Red Mtn 63-55 win.
I didn't take great notes for this one but I can tell you this. This game was all Red Mountain style of a game. Grind it out, solid possessions, smart ball, move ball for open shooters and efficient.
Pinnacle didn't shoot particularly well and RM played physical ball.
5'11" 2016 PG/RB for football Desi Ethridge was really good in this game. He scored 21 points (7/9) with many clutch shots along the way.
Jalen Jenkins had 9 points(4/7) 5 assists and 2 steals.
Kapono Enos(shooter) scored 11 points (5/8)
Pinnacle stats
Trevor Baker 11 pts--didn't play well though.
Jeff Kenney 15 points--only player I thought had a good game for Pinnacle.
Ben Wahlberg 10 points--just ok.
Nick Mains 6 points--not bad.
Game 4
7:00 PM MTV vs Gilbert..someone already documented this game..Amazing shot at buzzer in OT by 2016 6'1" PG Tommy Kuhse. MTV won 68-67. Kuhse is a nice looking passer..He had 5 assists in the game and he is a very cerebral player. Unorthodox release on his jumper but obviously goes in.
Balanced attack by both teams:
Gilbert
Bowling 15
Nicolds 13
Agostino 15
T Moore 12
MTV
T Crider 14
Kuhse 11
D Beecher 9
Jowaiszas 10
Game 5
8:30 PM Corona vs Imhotep (PA)..Someone also talked about game..CDS pulled away late but close game in 1st half led by GCU little brother Daron Russell. 2017 5'8" PG. He had 18 in 1st half..No answer for him..he got leg cramps in 2nd half..CDS went on huge run then he came back in..started fighting back..another PA player got leg cramps as well..too much Bagley in end..
Russell 28
Carlyle 16
Bagley 20 14 rebs 4 blocks
DK 16 7 assists
Barcello 16 4 assists
Henderson 10
Peat 15
