Final day... very, very well run tournament... excellent hospitality
Horizon (8-4) vs Sierra Linda (8-3) in the championship game... the Huskies platooning is extreme... they run five new players in the game every 3-4 minutes... I guess to keep those notoriously crazy parents in check, although Coach Jerry Conner told me he did this at Shadow Mountain... there is a very large banner on the back wall at Horizon, with the team members pictures... prominent are the words sprint, shoot, press, and repeat... missing are the words pass and defense... three speeds are fast, faster, and oh my God... so I tracked the FG shooting percentages in this game... it's staggering... Horizon, by quarter, was 3/16. 6/24, 8/22, and 4/18... overall they shot 21/80 for 25%... the Huskies were 23/31 from the charity stripe... Sierra Linda was 6/17, 4/12, 7/15, and 5/12... overall 22/56 for 39%... SL was 16/19 from the free throw line... these two teams combined for 136 FG attempts!... on one play in the 2nd quarter, a Horizon kid ran down the court with the ball and two defenders in front of him... he launched a shot from NBA three point range... the rest of his team had barely started up court... Sierra Linda won the game 74-71... leading scorers for Horizon were: Joey Cipolletti (15 pts), Brandon Burke (13 pts), and Colin King (10 pts)... top scorers for Sierra Linda included: Jorge Acuna (27 pts, 18 in the 2nd half), Dontae Aguirre (12 pts), and Ahmire Gaines (14 pts).

I had a chance to visit with Frank Tresnak, whose son Kyle Tresnak is having a great time playing pro ball in Spain... Frank noted that his son is trying to learn Spanish so that he can understand what the coach is saying during timeouts... Kyle was twice awarded Big Sky All-Conference honors and Weber State made a trip to the NCAA Tournament his senior year... and how about this from the website... Kyle is the first player in Weber State history to record 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds, and 100 career blocks... parents Frank and Ellen are the definition of class and loyalty.
