Here's an article on the Corona dynasty. The author seems to think 2010 was the year the Aztecs came into power and he's right to an extent, but CdS has been relevant since the school opened in the early 80's.
Because of it's geographical location, diverse range of housing prices and cultural balance, the school offers many, many benefits other schools can't.
Really, the only thing that's kept Corona from being completely dominant over the decades was the Mountain View Toros and a six-year stretch of time from about 1997 through 2003/04 when a coach not named Duane was at the helm.
The Toros were a 800-pound gorilla on the Aztec's back for about 15 years in an almost intimidating manner. But Corona finally got the monkey off their back and haven't looked back since.
Now that Corona is on a dynasty roll they're going to continue to draw talent - there's simply no excuse to not be able to live within the school boundaries or attend from a more remote location.
Sammy Duane Jr. is an easy coach to play for; I can't think of the last time a talented player left his program.
Corona won't be beaten by an in-state school for at least four more years. And during that stretch there will be more Bagley's, Kuiper's, and Barcello's feed into the system.....kind of like what happened at Mesa Mountain View for years.
Mountain View's reign came to an end primarily due to the restrictive/exclusive LDS culture that permeates in the areas surrounding their campus. For decades, the church fed the program quality talent but as the neighborhoods have aged and decined, many LDS families are chosing to live in newer commmunities to the south. And without black families being able to feel completely comfortable in a religion that for over a hundred years excluded them, there's no back-up talent to take up the slack for the LDS exodus.
Gary Ernst will continue to keep Mountain View competitive, but their days are over as championship contenders. Once Ernst retires, the once mighty Toros will become just another also-ran.
So, there you have it folks. Get ready for Corona to keep running the table and if you're any other Division 1 school, set your sights on 2nd place.
