Ranking 6th graders...article by Bordow

Rivals.com has started ranking 6th graders and while the idea on the surface appears absurd, it's actually a wise business decision. Parents as all of us know are fanatical about their kids and they will most definitely pay to subscribe to any online entity who ranks their kids. So the decision by Rivals to start ranking 6th graders is going to bring a whole new batch of subscribers online and now JP and Dutch are going to have to create a new locker room for junior high kids.....how about calling it the "Kiddie Korner?" Diaper service included with the cost of the subscription.

Mesa moves past Boulder Creek

Like I said in one of my tweets, this one was a defensive dog fight. Neither team had much height out on the court but they played intense, fundamental defense. With a noisy home crowd it felt like Mesa had the edge, and in the end clutch free throws down the stretch led to a 56-46 Mesa win.

Mesa won the tip and scored on their first drive. They immediately went into a full court diamond press. After the first bucket by Mesa it quickly became obvious that it would be a defensive game. The score was tied at just 8 points a piece after 6 minutes of play.

I thought that BC came out in zone, but once I saw Mesa start moving around on offense I thought I had been mistaken. BC is just really good at help side defense - the players rotate in sync with the pass and I didn't realize they were in man-defense until the Mesa players started moving around the floor.

But I think it was the Mesa defense that won the game. They did not let any penetration get inside for easy layups. If BC did manage to penetrate they were taking hard and contested shots. BC lived beyond the arc, and eventually died behind it. But they made a handful of the tough inside shots and shot the 3-ball well enough to keep it a close game until the end. Two of their three pointers came at the buzzer of the first and second quarters.

Junior guard Zack Landrum was fouled on three made 3-pointers. The home crowd began to cry flop from then on, as he did fall down IF there was any contact, but I agree with the three calls that he got. (Landrum also hit one from about 8 feet beyond the arc)

But Mesa's Summet Khara was the shooter of the day. He hit three 3's of his own and was the primary clutch free throw shooter at the end of the game. BC tried to find a way to shoot their way back into it, but with the long shots no longer falling they had to foul, and Khara found the bottom of the net time after time as the game came to a close.

Khara ended up with 22 points.
Darius Goudeau had 17

Pinnacle Gilbert

Ugly game but fun. 21-all at half.
Bowling keeping Gilbert in game. 12 pts.
Gilbert has been completely outplayed yet it's a tie game. Gilbert fights so hard. Well coached. Pinnacle has more overall talent. But 16 more minutes will decide it. Truman foul trouble and Pinnacle didn't take advantage of it.

Pubelo 59 Sahuaro 44

Rough night Sahuaro was without starters Josh Allen and Derik Hall and key reserve Cameron Detwiler. Pueblo showed up and played great defense. Sahuaro was out coached, out played and just got beat. It was a sad ending for us I really felt bad for my son who gave everything he had to this program. The choices of a couple of kids on the team costs their chances to go deep in the playoffs. He finished the night with 22 points, Nate Renfro just didn't give the effort we expected from him only 6 points one field goal.

Thanks to everyone on the board it was a fun 4 years but all good things must come to an end. Doesn't look like Jordan will keep playing he has no offers. Good luck to all of you still playing. Jordan will make his college choice in the next few weeks he has partial academic scholarships to NAU and U of A. He had a great HS Career I would like to personally thank John Ortega who took my kid in 4 years ago and worked with him to get him where he is today.

Dsfiverings

Sahuaro senior forward Jordan Lane attacked the basket in the second half, finding open creases and angles in the paint to finish with a game-high 22 points, after being limited to just two points in the first half. Senior wing Nate Renfro scored six points on just one field goal.
