Experienced coach looking for position

My name is Coach Robert Peterson, recently moved back to the valley, [for family medical reasons]. Former assistant boys coach in Arizona at River Valley High, Higley High and most recently at Perry High from 2008 to 2013. Looking to stay involved in boys basketball. Spent the last two years (2013-2014 & 2014-2015 seasons as Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Caldwell High School in the Boise, Idaho metro area. Thanks for the help.

Weidenaar back to Montana

Just got an email about Aaron Weidenaar and that he moved back to Montana after the district decided not to fight for his eligibility and that the AIA said they would challenge his transfer. Just what I was told - is that Weidenaar was told the district lawyers would fight for his eligibility and all but guaranteed he would be able to play, but ultimately they backed down. So he moved back home.

MSN article on Marvin Bagley, grandpa "Pogo Joe" Caldwell

Got in to work and saw this on the front page of MSN...

Link: 15-year-old is 6-11, wanted by every college

Good article. You get to learn about his grandpa and how he was kidnapped by ASU. Quite literally.

Pogo Joe has passed on a few bits of advice -

• Stay away from "fast women and fast cars."

• "If you're good, you don't have to tell me. Everybody else will."

• "If you're happy, you'll play basketball the best you can play. If you're not happy, you always got turmoil in your life."

Cost of Attendance Payouts to College Players

Very interesting article on the new Cost of Attendance payouts that are going to start being paid to college student-athletes and how it may impact recruiting. Here is the link to the article.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...ost-attendance-allowance-recruiting-advantage

One big AZ part of the story is that Grand Canyon is listed as giving the 2nd highest payout in the country of schools that published their amount. GCU will give $5,700 per player. That is some serious coin when you add up every student-athlete. NAU is listed as not participatingin COA at this point.

Have heard college coaches using this already in their recruiting. Will be interesting to see if this really makes a difference for players. At the end of the article, it lists which schools are participating and if they reported an amount per player. Not every school participated in the survey so many schools are not listed.

Colorado Northwestern Community College needs a player and has money to offer

"So, I am at Colorado Northwestern Community College in the Scenic West Athletic Conference - a great national powerhouse conference. We play College of Southern Idaho, Salt Lake CC, North Idaho, Utah State Eastern. We are located in Rangely, Colorado in the Northwest right next to the Utah border. Very small town roughly 2,500 people with a small college, but very beautiful college and campus. Great people up here. No walmart or even a big grocery store. So, kids need to be ballers - love the gym and want to get it done in the classroom because there is literally nothing for them to do near by. The closest biggest cities are 1 1/2 hours a away - Grand Junction, Colorado and Vernal, Utah, which both are nice cities, but a bit away for college kids.

We are looking for a very good shooter or a big man. We have money to offer."

The Hardwood Locker Room is now the Blue Chips Forum

Hey all- I'm Ralph Amsden, the new publisher of ArizonaVarsity.com. I'm shifting some of Jon's old furniture around, but don't worry- everything you like about this place is staying the exact same.

Unless you liked the name. In that case, I just lied to you, and for that I am sorry.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone, and providing plenty of basketball content alongside Gregg and Dutch.
