Was in Tempe tonight and saw there was a game so I dropped in on McClintock vs Gilbert Christian. Slow, sloppy start turned into a crazy finish. The GC bench had more guys not in uniform than dressed. Tonight, even Nate Graville was in street clothes on the bench. Also, where is Davion Green? Maybe I'm late to that party but this is the first time I've seen McClintock and he wasn't there. Big loss for the Chargers who have no size. The 6-4 Battle was the biggest player in the game on either side so put on your track shoes for an up and down night.

Or not. The game was very slow and choppy for the entire first half. McClintock struggled to shoot the ball from the outside allowing Gilbert Christian to hold a slight lead for most of the first half. GC even switched to a 2-3 zone for most of the 2nd quarter which slowed it down even more. Amiri actually hit the most contested 3 of the half late but GC still held a 23-20 halftime edge.

The 3rd quarter started to get a little flow as GC jumped out to a 14 point lead early on but McClintock immediately answered on a 12-0 run to get right back in it at 34-32. After that, it was back and forth until the final buzzer. Malique Washington started to assert himself on the offensive end for the Chargers and Dontez Thomas was making plays for the Kinights. In a game full of talented guards, Thomas was the star of the night. Throughout the game, he seemed to always make a play to answer a McClintock run. He took the ball to the basket and hit mid range jumpers throughout the game.

Late in the 4th quarter, GC finally made an effort to get the ball to Satterwhite in the post. The smaller Washington was guarding him the entire night. Cam scored on back to back possessions but McClintock answered each basket. McClintock was down 52-50 with the game winding down and they cleared it out for Malique Washington who calmly knocked down the 18 ft jumper with about 15 seconds left in the game to tie it. The Knights inbounded the ball quickly. As they crossed half court, the Chargers left GC's Jimmy White all alone on the baseline under the basket. White received the pass and shot a one footed type floater from about 5 feet out and nailed it. The buzzer went off and GC stormed the court. The refs awarded McClintock a timeout after the make and added 2 seconds back on the clock. The Chargers passed the ball to half court and threw up a desperation 3. GC made a little contact with the shooter who fell down but the ref said it wasn't a foul. GC pulled out the 54-52 win.

McClintock struggled at the FT line all night and GC hit most of theirs, especially in the 4th quarter. Not sure of the stats but the game was probably won/lost at the line. Satterwhite ended with about 22-24 pts and Thomas was proabably around 20 himself. Amiri and Malique were both around 20 for the Chargers. Freshman Jaden Lee didn't score a point. I've seen him in the past and he really looked lost playing the pg for GC. I can only remember him driving to the basket once the entire game and he hardly shot the ball. He was trying to set up the plays all night. Big weapon that is not being used, especially with the guys they have out.
