LV AZ recap

https://arizonavarsity.rivals.com/news/las-vegas-az-recap

I will start gathering up all my yearly info and re-do the prospects rankings for 19-21 and then maybe put 5 kids or so for the class of 2022 then as I go on my yearly tour around the state, I will just add to the list--I truly don't know that many incoming freshman to make a real ranking. 5 seems to be all I can do lol.
Then I'll have to put up Prep rankings as well with the players leaving the AIA.

Possible offers coming/new rules?/some thoughts

Every year this time kids get their 1st offers from the all important July live period.

That being said--this all important live period may be going away as soon as next year!!

Instead of the live periods coaches will have certain time to watch June HS ball and their will be special camps that college coaches pick!
The college coaches will make lists of players they want to see and those will be the ones getting invited to these camps to try and take away power from the AAU coaches. lol
These circuits will still go on per usual except scouts like myself will have to provide the info to all these college coaches or some kind of video coaches will pay for to see the games.

April live period/s next year will still be on.

These camps will be very crucial to attend and my camp that I thought was a fun and great exposure camp my get bigger and be in high demand since college coaches are attending plus national scouts. Coaches need to pick a good bang for your buck to go to these camps and if you have 120 quality players to see at just one event--it's smart money for them.

It will be very interesting where it all goes. I hope it stays the same, but if not we will all have to roll with the new rules. I'll be looking to see which are the smartest camps to attend myself to provide the best info possible to all the coaches I talk with.

Anyway 10 2019's who I've received calls on may get their 1st D1 offer:
(7 out of 10 6-7 or taller)

Jalen Graham PF 6'9" (Mtn Pte)-athletic stud/shot blocker.
Emad Elniel SF 6'5" (Independence)-Utility shooter and can defend.
Cameron Katal C 6'10" (Westview)-Skilled big w range.
Isaiah Marin PG 6'4" (Buckeye)-Bigger real PG w improved J.
Josh Baker CG 6'2" (Tock)--Shooter!!
Payton Dickerson F 6'7" (HIllcrest)-Shooter!!
Mamane Yaou PF 6'7" (Tri-City)-Skilled/high motor.
John Olmsted PF/C 6'10" (Morenci)-Skilled big.
Connor Braun PF 6'8" (Valley Christian)-Skilled forward.
Shaun Wahlstrom PF 6'8" (Estrella Foothills)-Strong and skilled.

3 others who may:
Miles Houston C 6'8" (Perry)-Strong defensive post.
Ethan Spry PF 6'7" (SCA)-Top tier shooter.
Jaret Allen SF 6'6" (Deer Valley)-Long shooter.

Food for thought:
There are many others who call on but this list was the most for D1.
There will be many D2/D3/NAIA offers going out in when July is over for sure.

The non D1 schools usually wait a little longer to offer since they are trying to see if these kids don't go D1 first. Once the player realizes he's not going D1 then he will decide what level is best for him if he has a choice or just chooses the schools who choose the player of course. Some kids don't have a choice and only receive 1-2 non D1 offers and either quit hoops or go to the non D1 school.

It's very hard thinking your whole life you will play at a D1 then realizing you don't have offers from them and then what do u do?? Tough and cruel reality at the end of your senior waiting for those offers to come.

Bryce Davis and Wesley Harris are currently in wait mode and that's why they haven't signed yet to my knowledge.

And so do u prep? Go juco to try and get that D1? Such a tough spot to be in!!

Club/AAU teams

If you know of a club team--put it on here---if someone is looking for a player or two or a player is looking for a club team--state your name/class/height/position or state your club team and ask the forum if they know of someone looking for a team!!
By now---most kids have teams.

I will start putting the club teams that I know of on here.
I will know a lot more this weekend at Ron Coleman's MAIN EVENT---it's typically the 1st big AAU event of the year.
Over 200+ teams--should be very competitive!

Cam, Mitch and James still dancing!

Is it bad form to publish Obert's garbage here? Oh well never been known for my manners... besides, this place has been so dang boring lately.

It's pretty awesome that AZ is being represented well in the final 4!

Hmmm... a hurt kid that went to a mid major rather than Colorado....Big Mitch that some thought reached too high....and a walkon football player....

So many good story lines here...

The AIA, Gilbert Christian, Shadow Mountain, Corona, Hillcrest....

yet little old Gilbert Christian has the only 2 Scholarship athletes from AZ playing in the FINAL 4.

So much irony...

Chime in, please, spice this place up a bit!!!

PICK EM 2017-2018

We are back at it again!

Weekly picks of 16 games--you take 1 game out and pick 15 winners.

I don't know the logistics yet of the prizes (we may or may not do prizes-I'll get back to you w that info)
but I do it for fun/pride myself anyway lol so---

I'll make Week 1 games in November or whenever I know the match-ups of some of the Thanksgiving events. No Monday games so ppl have time to make their picks for the next week. On normal weeks we usually did the cut-off time at 5:00 PM. But honestly if its before the start of the game--like 6:59 lol is fine with me.

Week 1 games: (Tues Nov 21st-Sat Nov 25th)

Just curious of how many may do it this year.

Please respond by saying your in if you would like to participate.

Robert Burries of The Globe Tigers

Robert Burries may be the greatest player in the rich history of Globe basketball. This young man was even phenomenal as a freshman starting on varsity, where he scored 68 points in a game. Burries was better offensively than any of Globe's players as a freshman, that went to the state championship two years in a row in the early 2000s. Does anyone know what colleges are looking at him??

Former Buena HS player

Hello,

My son, Marc Matthews, played high school basketball for Coach Glasgow from
2009-2012, and recently signed his 1st pro basketball contract to play in
Australia.

Matthews to begin his pro basketball career Down Under

Marc Matthews, Buena High School 2012, and Montana State University Billings
2017 graduate, signed his first pro basketball contract with the Smithton
Saints Tall Timbers Basketball Club, based in Tasmania, Australia. The
Smithton Saints are a member of the North West Basketball Union (NWBU), and
have both senior men's, women's and junior teams in the NWBU. Marc's
basketball season will begin the first weekend in February with the
Ulverstone Basketball preseason tournament, while the NWBU season runs
through August.

Matthews ended his prep career at Buena High School with 1,374 points
averaging 14.9 per game during his three years on the varsity for Coach Dave
Glasgow. Marc also accumulated 514 career rebounds, 136 steals and 97
blocks and led the team in scoring as both a junior and a senior. As a
senior during the 2011-12 season, Matthews averaged 18.1 points and 6.5
rebounds per game, both team-highs, as his team finished the season 24-6 and
made it to the quarterfinals of the Arizona Division I State Basketball
Tournament. He was named to the Southern Arizona Division I First Team and
was the Southern Arizona Division I Player-of-the-Year as well as an
All-Arizona Division I honorable mention. As a junior during the 2010-11
season, Matthews averaged a team-best 17 points per game and was second on
the squad with 7.3 rebounds per game as his team went 25-5 and went to the
Arizona 5A South Region Championship as well as the Arizona 5A Final Four.
Matthews was named to the All-Southern Arizona First Team, Arizona 5A
All-Southern Region First Team and was named to the Arizona 5A All-State
team as an honorable mention.

Matthews received a full basketball scholarship to Montana State University
Billings, and for his 2016-17 senior season, Marc was selected as the
Montana State University Billings Men's' Basketball Player of the Year, was
twice named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week and also
earned an unprecedented United States Basketball Writers Association
Division II National Player of the Week honor. Matthews broke into MSUB's
top-10 in career scoring with the final shot of his career, finishing with
1,280 points, hitting his 222nd career three, for 6th place all time at
MSUB. Matthews graduated with a degree in Liberal Studies in May 2017.

Thanks,
David Matthews
